friday roundup

i was reading one of my favourite sites this morning...
STFU Parents
(seriously, comedy gold.)
when saw the link to this article.
7 Things "Good Parents" Do (That Screw Kids Up for Life)

y'all know me.
i like STATS.
numbers and evidence make me happy...
and this article has loads.
specifically in the matters of several things that i have argued with my husband about.
so it's getting bookmarked and he'll be reading it later.

the BEST PART for me, is about names.
my husband has 2 boy names that he is very attached to.
i hate them both.
like, absolutely loathe them.
and one of them is on the top 10 list of criminal's names.
that should solve at least one of my little problems.

besides.  if we have a kid, i don't want a boy.  i want a girl.
so i'll be using all my psychic energy to influence the womb.
meaning that if it is a boy, it'll probably end up gay.
which would be preferable to me than raising a straight boy.
so, i still win, lol.

anyways.
the great fridge debacle continues in my house...
see, we were gifted a fridge.
a 4 year old LG stainless steel fridge.
i think it looks like this:

exciting huh?
okay, it's exciting to me.
'cause it's probably worth about $1,500 and we're getting it for free.

and there is nothing wrong with our current fridge...
except that it's about 14 years old and is NOT A STAINLESS STEEL LG FRIDGE WITH THE FREEZER ON THE BOTTOM AND FRENCH DOORS!
whew.
just in case you weren't sure of the differences.

so we had to hire movers to get the fridge from port moody (about a 10 minute drive away) to our house.
after a week of calls and emails for quotes, we found people that would do it for about $200 total.
not too bad of a return on a free fridge.

plus the old fridge gets taken by BC Hydro and we get $30 for it.
not a major amount of money, but it works.

so yesterday, the movers were supposed to do the swap for us between 3-6pm.
so i unloaded everything from our freezer and put it in coolers... and cleaned out the entire fridge and put it into shopping bags on our patio.
and waited.
and waited.
and waited.

and then they called and said they're running behind and can't move it until saturday.
i have to laugh because the only other option is losing my mind.

so this weekend, i'll get my new fridge.
i hope.

also this weekend, i get a house guest!  yey!
my best friend is always breezing in and out of town and it leaves us with a serious lack of quality time together.
sure, we spend oodles of time together when she's here normally... but it's always shared with other people and filled to the brim with go-here, do-this plans.
so this weekend, we chill and get to do nothing but spend quality time together like the good old days.

the plan thus far includes some good-for-us activities, like an aquafit class and if the weather permits, a walk/hike on the trails.
and some fun plans like cooking, being in our pj's for extended periods of time and watching movies and being silly.
i am greatly looking forward to it.

okay, gotta run... off to costco and to get groceries and booze for the weekend.

I had that link bookmarked - I'll be blogging about it in a few days!

Dood. That is one sexy fridge. I want to do things to it that involve caressing, at the very least. But, what kind of a cleaner will you use to keep it streak free? is the lubricating question. I mean, uh, question.

$200 doesn't sound bad for the movers/truck. When Col moved back here from his place at the condos next door, he hired a truck to move his stuff less than one block for about an hour at it was $150. I thought it was a total rip off but I guess that's the going rate. It seems this truck/mover for hire deal is actually kind of profitable!

Hope your new fridge has found it's way to you guys by now.
